In response to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Texas’ Senate Bill 4 can take effect while upholding the remaining “Show Me Your Papers” provision, DNC Spokesperson Francisco Pelayo released the following statement:

“The SB4 law is based on fearmongering and discrimination. It will only make our communities less safe by wasting state resources on racial profiling, undermining the trust of the community in their local authorities. This ‘show me your papers’ law is shameful and has no place in America. Our laws should respect hardworking families — not tear them apart and force them to live in fear based on the way they look. Democrats are committed to fight this racist law and stand by our neighbors.”
