DNC on Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s Visit to New Hampshire
July 12, 2018
DNC Northeast Press Secretary Elizabeth Renda released the following statement on Jeff Sessions’s roundtable event to discuss opioids in Concord today:
“Granite Staters don’t need another Trump administration publicity stunt in New Hampshire. They don’t need Jeff Sessions’s broken promises and empty rhetoric on the opioid epidemic that is plaguing their communities and taking hundreds of lives every year. And, they definitely don’t need another visit from a cabinet official whose president called their state a ‘drug-infested den’ and credited the opioid crisis for helping put him in office.
“New Hampshire, the state with the second highest opioid overdose death rate in the country, needs action. Yet, the Trump administration has proven unable and unwilling to deliver the results the country needs to combat this crisis, and has continued to propose massive cuts to programs like Medicaid that are critical for treatment. Meanwhile, New Hampshire’s powerhouse all-Democratic congressional delegation has gone to bat to deliver results for the Granite State, fighting to secure nearly $23 million in federal funding to fight the epidemic. It’s time for Jeff Sessions and the Trump administration to join Democrats like Senators Shaheen and Hassan by working to find solutions to this problem instead of showing up for an hour to deliver more of their empty rhetoric.”
