DNC Chair Statement on Rosh Hashanah
September 13, 2015
Washington, D.C. – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement as Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown today:
“A new year is a special time. It is a time to gather with our family and friends, reflect on the days that have passed, and an opportunity to embrace the promise of renewal and look forward to what the new year will bring.
“On Rosh Hashanah, Jews around the world will come together, guided by the principles of teshuvah, tefillah, and tzedakah. During these High Holidays, I will join my family and community in the spirit of prayer, fellowship, and understanding. We will also rededicate ourselves to the tenets of our faith that dictate our responsibility to help others.
“As we start the year 5776, we face serious challenges that will shape the prospects of peace and security. We must be vigilant in ensuring the safety of America, Israel, and our allies from those who would threaten it. We are also compelled to look inward, and lift up those around us who are less fortunate, extending the ladders of success to ensure that everyone can reach the opportunities that many of us already enjoy.”
