DNC Chair Statement on Republicans Voting to Defund Planned Parenthood
September 18, 2015
Washington, D.C. – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in response to Republicans voting to defund Planned Parenthood:
“Today, Congressional Republicans expressed their willingness to jeopardize the health and safety of millions of American women by denying funding to Planned Parenthood. Across the country, women and their families depend on Planned Parenthood as a trusted health care provider, and this move would leave many with nowhere else to turn for the care they rely on.
“We already know that Jeb Bush thinks we spend too much on women’s health services, and that Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and others in the Republican presidential field are willing to shut down the government in their quest to defund Planned Parenthood. Recklessly shutting down the government to deny women access to health care will hurt our economy, when we could instead focus on strengthening the middle class by guaranteeing women equal pay, raising the minimum wage, and improving paid leave policies.”
