DNC Chair Statement on Native American Heritage Day
November 27, 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. — DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement today on Native American Heritage Day:
“Throughout Native American Heritage Month, and especially today on Native American Heritage Day, we celebrate and honor Native Americans and Alaska Natives. As Americans, we recognize the rich and vibrant cultures of America's first peoples as we strive to strengthen tribal sovereignty, grow Native economies, and support policies that reinforce tribal self-determination. It is critical that we continue to engage with leaders throughout Indian Country to expand opportunities for our Native American Communities and Native youth.
“This month is also an opportunity to recognize the incredible sacrifice of Native Americans who serve in the military at the highest rate of any ethnicity. Thank you to all of our veterans who have worked tirelessly to keep our country safe.”
