On Allie Beth Stuckey’s podcast, JD Vance callously compared the Trump administration’s effort to limit access to abortion to Abraham Lincoln’s abolition of slavery.
Since Trump and Vance took office, their administration has undermined women’s healthcare across the country, freezing millions in funding for lifesaving reproductive care. On top of that, Trump and Vance’s Big Ugly Bill would eliminate Medicaid coverage for 2.1 to 6 million women of reproductive age, and Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has launched a dubious Food and Drug Administration review of abortion pills, possibly setting up new restrictions on the medication.
Following Dobbs v. Jackson, Trump and his Supreme Court have paved the way for Republicans to limit abortion access nationwide. With Louisiana suing to restrict access to abortion pills and other similar lawsuits from Republican attorneys general, Republicans are jeopardizing women’s healthcare and lives.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance have launched an all-out assault on reproductive healthcare, putting the lives of millions of women in danger. Trump has stripped away lifesaving reproductive healthcare, undermining the right of women to make decisions about their own bodies with their doctors. On top of that, Trump and Vance ushered in a healthcare crisis by making the biggest cut to Medicaid in history and refusing to extend the ACA tax credits, which have sent insurance premiums skyrocketing. Democrats will continue to fight for the right of women to make decisions about their bodies and their families, to access crucial health care, and for doctors to provide the care their patients need.”
