Ahead of World Cup Finals, DNC Launches Unprecedented Voter Registration Weekend of Action at Community Watch Parties Across the Country

During the final matches of the World Cup, Democratic volunteers and organizers will spend the weekend meeting, engaging, and registering thousands of voters at dozens of local watch parties

The DNC is continuing to invest in on-the-ground organizing that wins elections by launching an unprecedented voter registration weekend of action at World Cup watch parties across the country.

During the final matches of the World Cup, organizers, fellows, volunteers, and campaign staff will mobilize across dozens of communities to register more than 3,000 new Democratic voters outside FIFA Fan Zones and at community watch parties, restaurants, sports bars, parks, and other high-traffic locations. This effort also includes an innovative four-part national training series that will equip more than 1,500 Democrats with the tools and best practices to run successful partisan voter registration drives. These trainings are available to state and county parties, coordinated campaigns, local campaign staff, organizers, volunteers, and coalition partners.

In response to the launch of this voter registration weekend of action, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“While Republicans make it clear that they don’t care about American families by jacking up grocery prices and making their lives more expensive, Democrats throughout the country continue to organize on the ground, register our neighbors at community events, and meet voters where they are. From outside FIFA Fan Zones and at World Cup watch parties to bars, restaurants, and parks, we’ll spend the weekend registering thousands of new Democrats and having conversations about how we win races up and down the ballot.”

The nationwide voter registration weekend of action will feature:

  • The DNC’s When We Count fellows registering young voters in Spanish and English at high-traffic World Cup events. This includes sports bars, restaurants, block parties, parks, grocery stores, discount stores, dollar stores, and food courts.
  • The DNC’s distributed organizing team helping to recruit and deploy World Cup Voter Registration Ambassadors who will hit the ground at community watch parties in nearly two dozen states.
  • Voter registration drives and high-traffic canvassing at public World Cup watch parties and outside FIFA Fan Zones throughout the country. This includes events hosted by state parties or coordinated campaigns in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri, and Washington.
  • Democrats hosting community watch parties in places where they don’t already exist. These events will be an opportunity for neighbors to come together to watch the games, check their voter registration, get added to the rolls, and sign up to volunteer.

The World Cup weekend of action builds on the DNC’s work to reach people where they are, engage communities, register voters, sign up volunteers, and invest in year-round, on-the-ground organizing. Last month, the DNC hosted a successful Stuff Costs Too Much Weekend of Action in which Democrats throughout the country held more than 200 on-the-ground events, engaged thousands of volunteers, trained 150 new organizers, and had nearly 10,000 conversations with working families.

In the spring, the DNC published The Playbook, an actionable guide to help build winning campaigns that includes best practices, case studies, and innovations in organizing. Earlier this year, the DNC launched When We Count, the largest-ever campaign to register and mobilize the next generation of Democratic voters ahead of the midterms.
