DNC Chair on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Decision Not to Seek Reelection to Congressional Leadership

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to not seek reelection to congressional leadership:

“Twenty years ago, I went to Capitol Hill as a young staffer and since that time Speaker Pelosi has always been our Leader. In her time in Congress, Speaker Pelosi has been a tremendous force for good. She has been one of the most effective, consequential, and powerful speakers in our history.

“Under her leadership, we avoided a collapse of the American economy in 2008, secured the passage of landmark legislation like the Affordable Care Act, American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the Inflation Reduction Act. She accomplished all of this while unifying a very diverse caucus.

“I am so proud to bear witness to the ascension and the ‘good trouble’ of the greatest speaker of the House. Thank you Madam Speaker for your leadership. Thank you for your strength. Thank you for your friendship.”
