Following a report about a Trump administration proposal to penalize immigrants who use tax credits and other earned public benefits, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:
“This is another heartless attack on immigrants. Donald Trump should spend less time finding ways to punish hardworking families and more time standing up for the values of inclusion and opportunity that make America great.
“Denying visas or residency to immigrants who have children or have earned Medicaid or tax benefits is unconscionably cruel. Even legal immigrants whose U.S. citizen children use CHIP or nutritional benefits will be punished under this cold, anti-family attack. Democrats believe diversity is our nation’s greatest strength, and we will continue to fight back against this proposal and all of Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrant families.”
