DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and LGBTQ Caucus Chair Earl Fowlkes issued the following statement on the seventh anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting:
“Seven years ago today, our country witnessed the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ+ community in American history when a gunman shot and killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. At what was supposed to be a celebration during Pride month, this attack reminded us of the violence and discrimination that LGBTQ+ people continue to face.
“These attacks are against everything we stand for as Americans. Whether it is seeking to pass the Equality Act or fighting for common-sense gun reforms, Democrats remain committed to not only rooting out anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination, but also fighting the gun violence epidemic.
“Inaction is not acceptable. Today and every day we must honor the lives we lost at Pulse nightclub with action.”
