DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001:
“For twenty-five years, Americans have carried the painful memory of the September 11 attacks. Every day since, we as a nation have vowed to never forget those who were killed in New York, at the Pentagon, and on Flight 93. We have remembered the first responders and rescue workers who sacrificed their lives, and have stood with the families and loved ones of those who perished.
“In the weeks and months after the attacks, our nation came together with common purpose and unified resolve — donating blood, providing humanitarian relief, and even joining the effort to clear the rubble at Ground Zero. It didn’t matter where we lived, how we voted, or to whom we prayed. Americans stood together and lived up to our founding motto: out of many, one.
“Today, we must choose, once again, to stand with one another. We must continue to honor the lives that were lost, the service members and veterans who answered the call to protect our country in the years since, and the first responders and survivors who continue to face illness from toxic exposure.”
