As Secretary Mullin refuses to rule out sending ICE agents to the polls, the DNC is taking on the Trump administration in court and demanding accountability and transparency. Through our FOIA lawsuit, the DNC uncovered correspondence that suggests the Trump administration may target jurisdictions where voting materials are provided in multiple languages. New reporting details how we are shedding light on what the Trump administration may be planning ahead of these critical midterm elections — especially as Republicans prepare for defeat.
After the disclosure of the FOIA documents, DNC Litigation Director Dan Freeman released the following statement:
“It is extremely concerning that the Trump administration may be targeting jurisdictions where voting materials are available in multiple languages. American citizens exercising their right to vote, regardless of the language they speak, have the right to do so without fear or intimidation. The DNC will continue to fight against every attempt by the Trump administration to suppress or intimidate voters and to ensure our elections remain free and fair.”
The DNC has continued to file FOIA requests and litigation to inform the public and prepare for any legal actions needed to defend and protect Americans’ access to the ballot box in addition to the security, transparency, and integrity of elections across the country. The DNC will continue holding the administration accountable and demanding they not subvert or undermine the will of the voters.
Just today, Secretary Mullin again refused to rule out sending federal agents to the polls — threatening the integrity of our elections and attacking voters’ rights to cast their ballot without fear or intimidation.
Dana Bash, CNN: “Can you promise federal agents you oversee at DHS will not be summoned to polling places when there’s no legitimate, active emergency?”
Secretary Mullin: “This is so ridiculous. I’ve been asked this question so many times. I[‘m] actually disappointed that you even brought this up because I think you and I have even talked about this already. We’re only going to be there if we were required because there’s some type of threat.”
