BREAKING: Bessent Admits Trump Hid a “Backdoor” To Privatizing Social Security in Billionaire Budget Bill

We already know that Trump’s billionaire-first budget is the largest cut to health care in history —  all to give massive tax handouts to the ultrarich — and now, his administration is admitting that the “Trump Accounts” included in the bill will be how they go after Social Security.

In response to Scott Bessent admitting the Trump administration’s plan to gut Social Security, DNC Senior Advisor for Messaging, Mobilization, and Strategy Tim Hogan released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just said the quiet part out loud: The administration is scheming to privatize Social Security. It wasn’t enough to kick millions of people off their health care and take food away from hungry kids. Trump is now coming after American seniors with a ‘backdoor’ scam to take away the benefits they earned.  Democrats won’t stand by as Trump screws over working families in order to give more handouts to billionaires.”

NEW: Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump Accounts are a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”

Scott Bessent: “At the end of the day, I am not sure when the distribution level date should be, whether it should be 30 and you can buy a house. Should it be 60? But in a way, it is a backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”

REMINDER: After promising Social Security “won’t be touched,” Trump has moved to gut the Social Security Administration, threatening hard-earned benefits for millions of Americans amid a 50-year low on staffing and throwing the agency into chaos.

Washington Post: “Social Security Administration leadership is under instruction to swiftly produce plans to cut its staff by half, according to two employees at the agency who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.”

Axios: “An internal memo from the Social Security Administration proposes changes to its phone service that could derail the benefits application process for many Americans. …

“The draft of the memo viewed by Axios says the proposed limitations will be ‘significant’ for those living in rural areas in particular.”
