COVID-19 Cases, Deaths & Hospitalizations Hit All-Time Highs As Trump Continues To Ignore The Pandemic
December 3, 2020
Deaths, infections, and hospitalizations all hit single-day record highs yesterday as the coronavirus continues to surge uncontrolled across the country. Instead of doing anything to help, Trump has ignored the pandemic to focus on spreading lies about the election and his administration continues to put more Americans at risk by flouting public health guidelines and hosting indoor holiday parties with hundreds of invited guests.
The number of coronavirus cases, deaths and hospitalizations all hit all-time highs yesterday.
CNBC: “The United States logged 14 million Covid-19 cases Wednesday just hours after setting three grim records, including the highest number of daily deaths, new infections and hospitalizations since the pandemic began.”
Trump’s coronavirus task force issued extremely dire warnings to states and Trump’s CDC director said the worst could be yet to come.
CNN: “The White House coronavirus task force issued extremely dire warnings to states in weekly reports this week, urging public health officials to circumvent state and local policies amid record high cases, hospitalizations and deaths, as well as fears of a surge upon a surge following Thanksgiving.”
Washington Post: “And Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the worst might still be ahead. He predicted that the U.S. covid-19 death toll could reach 450,000 by February, and he warned that this winter could be ‘the most difficult time in the public health history of this nation.’”
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is moving forward with its holiday parties and Pompeo is set to hold indoor events to which he’s invited hundreds of guests.
Washington Post: “Pompeo invites hundreds to indoor holiday parties after subordinates are warned against hosting ‘non-mission critical events’”
Washington Post: “A copy of one invitation, obtained by The Washington Post, welcomes guests to a Dec. 15 event titled ‘Diplomacy at Home for the Holidays’ in the Benjamin Franklin Room, the department’s flagship reception space, which features cut-glass chandeliers and towering Corinthian columns. Invitations have already gone out to 900 people, said two U.S. officials familiar with the planning, raising concerns about a potential superspreader event.”
Trump has failed to lead and has focused instead on spreading lies about the election and sulking over his defeat.
New York Times: “President Trump on Wednesday released a 46-minute videotaped speech that denounced a ‘rigged’ election and was filled with lies the day after his own attorney general joined election officials across the country in attesting to his defeat.”
CNN: “As President Donald Trump ignores America’s slide into a tragic winter and obsesses over his false claims of a stolen election, three of his predecessors are volunteering to bare their arms on camera to build confidence in the vaccines that could finally end the pandemic.”
