DNC, DCCC Kick Off The “Fight to Save Medicaid” Month of Action with New Distributed Organizing Program

Democrats will target four vulnerable Republicans who are poised to gut Medicaid and other critical programs – Tom Barrett (MI-07), Don Bacon (NE-02), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01)

As House Republicans put health care on the chopping block for 80 million Americans in order to give billionaires trillions in tax handouts, Democrats are launching the “Fight to Save Medicaid” month of action to put vulnerable House Republicans on notice as they’re poised to once again vote to rip health care access from their constituents. The initiative kicks off with the launch of a new organizing program at the DNC, which will empower thousands of energized grassroots volunteers to make their voices heard in the fight to save our health care.

The DNC’s organizing program will empower everyday Americans with the resources and know-how to hold Republican representatives accountable and build grassroots power ahead of critical statewide and midterm elections in 2025 and 2026.

The DNC’s distributed organizing program builds on the committee’s direct action initiatives like the People’s Town Halls, employing both traditional organizing tactics and an innovative network organizing approach to transform passive supporters from the 2024 cycle into a fleet of active volunteer organizers and communicators. Supporters will receive opportunities to take direct action both online and offline, while developing the skills to activate their personal networks to expand our base of grassroots volunteers.

In its first campaign within its distributed organizing program, the DNC will partner with the DCCC to target four of the most vulnerable House Republicans, challenging them to listen to their constituents and vote against Trump’s budget bill and their party’s dangerous cuts to Medicaid.

Democrats will empower battleground voters to send a clear message directly to Tom Barrett (MI-07), Don Bacon (NE-02), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01): A deeply unpopular vote against Medicaid this month will cost you your seat come the midterms.

To accompany the pressure campaign launch, Democrats will host a new round of People’s Town Halls in some of these vulnerable Republicans’ districts during the month of May and activate supporters across the country to put pressure on these Republican members of Congress through:

  • Digital Pressure: Voters engage with and share accountability content within the digital space where they already communicate.
  • Local Pressure: Voters join – or lead their own – local visibility efforts, including People’s Town Halls.
  • Direct Pressure: Voters will be activated to call and email their Republican representatives to make their outrage known.

Following the DNC’s new distributed organizing launch, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:

“The American people are furious at Trump and Republicans’ dangerous attacks on their health care and vulnerable Republican Representatives Barrett, Bacon, Lawler, and Fitzpatrick will seal their political fate if they go along with Trump’s disastrous budget. To ensure these Republicans understand that it’s either their vote or their job, the DNC is launching its first-ever distributed organizing program to offer voters a platform to join Democrats in taking direct action — from hosting town halls to mobilizing their personal networks — against the GOP’s budget, while building grassroots power for critical elections still ahead. Our representatives must serve the people — not ignore them. Republicans will either learn that lesson now or at the ballot box.”

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene issued the following statement:

“House Republicans have lost the trust of the American people and are on track to lose in the midterms because of their record of broken promises. They’ve consistently sold out their own constituents to please their billionaire backers, even when it means supporting catastrophic cuts to health care access. As the sole committee dedicated to taking back the House in 2026, the DCCC is eager to empower battleground voters with this new program and hold Republicans accountable.”

Additional background on the vulnerable Republican targets:

Recent reporting reveals that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Republicans’ proposed cuts to Medicaid. As their party plots to make unpopular cuts to Americans’ health care, Republican Reps. Tom Barrett (MI-07), Don Bacon (NE-02), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) are four of the most vulnerable Republicans in the House and will face voters’ wrath if they cave to Trump’s budget demands. In 2024, voters within their district split tickets and also broke for Democrats on the ballot.

In the last two months alone, the DNC, in partnership with the DCCC and ASDC, has hosted more than 100 town halls in districts across the country to hold Donald Trump and Republicans accountable for their attacks on working people. To keep the pressure up, the DNC will host a new round of People’s Town Halls in vulnerable Republican districts, while employing state-of-the-art organizing tactics to activate supporters and put direct pressure on Republicans ahead of budget reconciliation votes. This will be an all-out blitz by the Democratic Party to save health care for millions of Americans.
