DNC on Trump’s Executive Orders Attacking Federal Unions

DNC Chair Tom Perez and Vice Chair Maria Elena Durazo released the following statement as federal agencies begin to implement President Trump’s executive orders weakening federal unions by limiting time spent on union duties and charging unions rent, as well as hurting unions' ability to negotiate on workers' behalf and depriving workers of their right to due process in the workplace:

“Let’s call these orders what they are: blatant and disgraceful union-busting attacks that will hurt millions of federal workers and their families.

“Attacking unions is one of the most powerful tactics in the Republican playbook to enrich their wealthy friends at the expense of working people. In fact, Republicans are so determined to undermine workers that they held a Supreme Court seat hostage for nearly a year in order to nominate an aggressively anti-union judge.

“Democrats know that when unions succeed, America succeeds. That’s why public approval for unions is soaring, and federal union membership continues to grow each year. While Donald Trump and Republicans take aim at the labor movement, Democrats will keep advocating for workers to have seat at the table and a voice in decision-making – because these fights aren’t just about dollars, they’re about dignity.”
