DNC, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Launch Text Campaign to Contact Over 400,000 Voters To Boost Vote-By-Mail Efforts

Efforts will ensure Pennsylvania voters are educated about their right to vote-by-mail

This week, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party (PA Dems) are partnering to launch a texting campaign aimed at over 400,000 voters to encourage them to fill out and return an application to vote by mail. Following the leadership of Governor Wolf to expand vote-by-mail in the commonwealth, hundreds of volunteers will text Pennsylvania voters asking them to apply to vote by mail in the upcoming presidential and state primary election.

Since Governor Wolf signed Act 77 of 2019, which expanded access to voting in the Keystone state, Pennsylvania Democrats have been organizing to register voters and educate them about changes to voting laws in Pennsylvania. In the wake of COVID-19, this expansion of vote-by-mail and no-excuse absentee voting is more important than ever, ensuring voters can cast ballots without risking their own health and safety.

The DNC and PA Dems have worked in collaboration throughout this cycle to build a robust campaign infrastructure capable of defeating Donald Trump and Republicans up and down the ticket. For example, in late January, the DNC bought tens of millions of cell phone numbers across the country, including in Pennsylvania, to improve voter contact and ensure Democratic campaigns have the best data infrastructure possible. During the coronavirus pandemic, these investments have allowed campaigns to seamlessly transition into digital-only organizing.

Sinceré Harris, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Executive Director: “Thanks to Governor Wolf’s leadership, Pennsylvanians can now vote from the safety of their homes in the upcoming primary election on June 2 and in November. This campaign will make sure that voters in every corner of the commonwealth know exactly how to make their voices heard. We’re taking nothing for granted and we’ll continue to do everything we can to make sure Pennsylvania goes back to blue.”

David Bergstein, DNC Battleground State Communications Director: “Democrats have built a powerful organizing infrastructure in Pennsylvania, and this texting campaign is one example of the dynamic and creative tactics we’re deploying to ensure Donald Trump is a one-term president. We’ve changed some of our methods in response to coronavirus, but programs like these will ensure we achieve our underlying objective: hold Trump accountable for his broken promises and help Pennsylvania Democrats win victories at every level of the ballot.”
