DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement on Transgender Day of Visibility:

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the resilience and the strength of transgender and nonbinary Americans. 

While today is a day of celebration and remembrance, we must also acknowledge the hardships the LGBTQ+ community faces daily and remember and honor the victims of cruelty and violence. 

“Donald Trump and Republican extremists across the country want to strip away rights — including the right to love who you love and be who you are. That is why we are committed to protecting our transgender friends, family, and neighbors from the cruel attacks and blatant discrimination.

“We must create a society in which personal freedom and the ability to be yourself are celebrated, not condemned or legislated against. 

Let’s be clear – trans rights are human rights.
