GOP is Hoping the American People Ignore Their Extremism On Abortion

After their decades-long war on the right to choose, Republican lawmakers are desperately trying to spin their way out of the devastating impact their extremism will have on millions of Americans.

Many Republicans are trying to downplay the consequences of their extremism on abortion:

Washington Post: “Many Republicans are hoping the burst of attention on abortion fades.”

Axios: “But Republicans running in elections this year have been preparing since the publication of a draft ruling last month in POLITICO to turn the political debate away from Roe as sharply as possible, seemingly cognizant of its downsides.”

But make no mistake: Republican-led legislatures are pushing extreme bans with no exceptions for rape or incest, and GOP leaders are calling for nationwide bans on the right to choose:

Washington Post: “Just moments after the Supreme Court released its decision on Friday, Florida state Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R) wrote to Gov. Ron DeSantis, urging the Republican to call a special session that would allow the legislature to pass a six-week abortion ban.”

Washington Post: “Republican governors in Indiana and Nebraska had also signaled their interest in reconvening to pass additional antiabortion legislation if the Supreme Court overturned Roe.”

Washington Post: “In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, former vice president Mike Pence says abortion should be banned nationwide and is planning behind the scenes to focus on the issue in the coming weeks, according to advisers.”

Why are Republicans trying to downplay the impact of the Supreme Court case on the November elections? Because their extreme positions are wildly out of touch with the American people.
