Is there anything Republican lawmakers love more than shameless hypocrisy? Apparently not, because in the last 24 hours alone, numerous Senate Republicans have tried to rewrite history and pretend like they didn’t vote against $13.6 million in military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine just 12 days ago. 

Thirty-one Republican senators voted against military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, but that hasn’t stopped Senate Republicans from hypocritically trying to shift blame to the Biden administration. 

Senate Republicans: “Ukraine has asked for Stingers, Javelins, and air defense systems. The Biden Administration has been too slow. Get them the tools they need.”

Washington Post: “More than two dozen Senate Republicans demand Biden do more for Ukraine after voting against $13.6 billion for Ukraine”

Senator Rick Scott said the United States must “IMMEDIATELY” send resources and planes to Ukraine, but he failed to mention that he voted against billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine. 

WLRN: “Senators Scott, Rubio vote against federal funding bill that provides aid to Ukraine”

Rick Scott: “A heartbreaking and horrifying loss. What Putin & his thugs are doing is genocide. The United States must IMMEDIATELY give Ukraine all the resources & access to the planes they need to win this violent war.”

If Senator Tim Scott wants to “do more” to help Ukraine, then why did he vote against a package that included military funding to send arms to Ukrainians fighting against Russia’s unprovoked attack? 

Post and Courier: “Though the vote to approve the $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine was achieved on a bipartisan basis, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., was among the 31 senators who voted against it, saying he supported a separate spending bill to address the problem.”

Tim Scott: “Ukrainian President Zelensky has inspired the world with his wartime leadership — hopefully he has also inspired the Biden administration to do more to aid the Ukrainians in their resistance of Russia’s invasion.”

Oklahoma’s James Lankford should have stepped up to ensure Ukrainians who are fighting for their lives have the resources they need, but instead he voted against it.

And we can’t forget Senator Roger Marshall, who said we need to get Ukraine “the damn weapons” not even two weeks after he voted against military aid for Ukraine.
