Mike Pence Can’t Quit Donald Trump
November 16, 2022
Mike Pence is on his book tour to rehab his image this week, and he’s going out of his way to praise his relationship with Donald Trump — even as he admits that Trump literally put his life in danger during the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Pence wants to have it “all ways at once” with Trump, but the truth is that Pence simply cannot quit him.
When asked about the January 6 attack, Pence admitted that Trump’s “reckless” words and actions put his life in danger.
POLITICO: “Pence: Trump ‘endangered me and my family’”
ABC News: “‘The president’s words were reckless and his actions were reckless,’ [Pence] told Muir this week. ‘The president’s words that day at the rally [before the riot] endangered me and my family and everyone at the Capitol building.’”
New York Times: “Mike Pence said on Tuesday that he was angered by President Donald J. Trump’s conduct on and before Jan. 6, 2021, but he took pains to avoid attacking him”
But Mike Pence is also going to great lengths to praise their “close” friendship and claimed that the two parted “amicably” even after Trump incited a mob to attack the Capitol on January 6.
Fox News: “‘President Trump and I actually forged a close working relationship. He was not just my president. He was my friend,’ Pence recalled.
‘We literally spent time together every day when we were both at the White House, sometimes up to 4 hours.’”
Pence also touted their administration’s extreme MAGA agenda — including saying that the Trump-Pence administration’s “greatest accomplishment was three Supreme Court justices” who overturned Roe v. Wade, which rolled back womens’ freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions.
Mike Pence: “Of course, to me the greatest accomplishment [of the Trump-Pence administration] was three Supreme Court justices.”
Mike Pence is twisting himself into pretzels as he attempts to remake his image – but the truth is that no matter how desperately he tries to have it both ways on Trump’s brand of MAGA extremism, he’s still doused in it.
