DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes temporarily stepped aside from the committee’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
 
“Republicans have proven how lightly they take Russia’s influence on our election by only temporarily replacing Congressman Nunes, despite his being the subject of a serious investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
 
“Americans demand an independent investigation on Russia’s attack on our democracy.  We must appoint a special prosecutor and form an independent investigation led by a 9/11-style commission.  Anything less is unacceptable.”
