In response to Donald Trump flip-flopping on his love for Elon Musk, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Donald Trump spent months praising Elon Musk’s slash and burn operation that threatened access to Social Security and veterans benefits while gutting hundreds of other critical programs. Now, he’s waking up to the reality that the American people overwhelmingly hate his devastating cuts and is attacking Musk’s efforts. But, we have the receipts. Trump repeatedly endorsed the cuts Musk and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency made — and now he’s running scared from his record.” 

SHOT: Yesterday, Donald Trump attacked Elon Musk’s efforts at DOGE, saying he would’ve done things “differently”… 

Donald Trump: “No, no, look, look we cut hundreds of billions of dollars with DOGE. We could’ve done it differently. I would’ve done it differently a little bit maybe.” 

CHASER: … after spending months heaping praise on Musk and DOGE’s work, saying it was “without comparison in modern history.” 

Donald Trump: “[Elon Musk] stepped forward to put his very great talents into the service of our nation, and we appreciate it. And I just want to say that Elon has worked tirelessly, helping lead the most sweeping and consequential government reform program in generations. And you know the kinds of things that he’s found and his people have found. … 

“Elon’s service to America has been without comparison in modern history.” 

Trump: “I think [Musk’s] done an amazing job. I think his people have done an incredible job. They’re brilliant people.” 

Trump: “[Musk,] you’ve really been a tremendous help. You opened up a lot of eyes as to what can be done. And we just want to thank you very much and, you know, you’re invited to stay as long as you want.”
