Trump Says “I Love the Inflation” as Prices Surge
June 10, 2026

Today’s inflation report shows inflation at 4.2% annually as Trump’s war with Iran pushes prices even higher
When asked this morning if he was concerned about new inflation data, Donald Trump said, “No, I love it. The numbers were great. You know what I really love? I love the inflation.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index report for May 2026 released today shows that inflation increased 4.2% year over year, the highest in three years, due to Trump’s unpopular war of choice in Iran. To top it off, Americans’ hard-earned paychecks are being swallowed up as Trump’s inflation outpaces wage growth — which is currently at a five-year low — and the costs of everyday essentials like gas, electricity, food, and healthcare skyrocket.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s disastrous economic agenda and deadly and costly war with Iran have made life unbearable for millions of Americans. Working families are shouldering skyrocketing costs for basic goods, with their wages being eaten up by Trump’s soaring inflation. On the campaign trail, Trump promised to ‘defeat inflation,’ and to lower costs on ‘Day One,’ but two years later, Trump can’t get a handle on his war of choice with Iran as he tanks the economy back home.”
Just last month, Trump admitted he doesn’t think about the economic struggles of Americans as a result of his war with Iran, saying, “Not even a little bit. … I don’t think about Americans’ financial situations, I don’t think about anybody.”
Meanwhile, here’s what some of Trump’s own supporters are saying about his skyrocketing gas prices:
- “Last time I filled up I was like, ‘Oh, this hurts.’”
- “It doesn’t give me the greatest feeling about Donald Trump.”
- “Him running us like a business — I’ve seen where it’s gotten us, and it’s not good.”
It’s no wonder Trump’s approval ratings are in the gutter. A new poll this week found 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, while another poll showed two-thirds of voters blame Trump’s policies for higher prices.
