Trump Taps Unqualified Election Denier, MAGA Loyalist, and Fox Personality Jeanine Pirro For Top Law Enforcement Job

In response to Donald Trump naming Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s administration is stacked with MAGA election deniers and Fox News personalities — not competent leaders. Jeanine Pirro is yet another unqualified TV personality with a history of putting Trump and violent insurrectionists above the rule of law. She’ll be a disaster for public safety and an embarrassment to law enforcement — just like Trump’s last failed pick for the same job.”

NEW: Trump is tapping election denier, loyalist, and Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Washington Post: “Trump says he is naming Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro as top federal prosecutor in DC”

ABC News: “Pirro has been a longtime ally of Trump … She was an early supporter of his 2016 campaign and publicly defended him during the ‘Access Hollywood’ tape scandal.

“Following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, Pirro pushed false allegations of election fraud involving voting machines and was later among the Fox News employees named in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit for broadcasting false claims about the company. Fox News eventually settled for $787.5 million and admitted the statements were false.”

REMINDER: Trump withdrew his last unqualified nominee for the U.S. Attorney position — another election denier who abused his position to protect January 6 insurrectionists.

Washington Post: “President Donald Trump on Thursday named Fox News host Jeanine Pirro to take over as interim U.S. attorney for D.C., replacing embattled nominee Ed Martin after 15 tumultuous weeks in office marked by his threats to investigate Trump’s perceived political adversaries and firings and demotions of career prosecutors who handled cases involving the president and the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack.”

NBC4 Washington: “Martin practiced law in Missouri but never worked as a prosecutor or tried a case before Trump appointed him in January.”

Democracy Docket: “In 2021, Martin was one of the thousands of insurrectionists at the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6. He posted on social media that day, saying it’s ‘Like Mardi Gras in DC today: love, faith and joy. Ignore #FakeNews.’”

Washington Post: “Edward R. Martin Jr., a Missouri lawyer who helped organize the ‘Stop the Steal’ movement to keep Donald Trump in office after his 2020 election loss and who defended several Jan. 6 rioters in court … [and] has already been dismissing Capitol riot charges and firing those who prosecuted the cases.”

Bloomberg: “Acting US Attorney Ed Martin Demotes Jan. 6 Case Supervisors”

Forbes: “As the Biden-era DOJ prosecuted Jan. 6 rioters, Martin also helped raise money for Jan. 6 defendants and defended at least three of them in court.”

Instead of appointing qualified leaders, Trump has stacked his administration with unqualified and unfit Fox News personalities.
