Trump’s Economy: Increasing Prices, Rising Long-Term Unemployment, and Plummeting Approval
June 27, 2025

In response to recent reports on rising prices, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin issued the following statement:
“Working families can’t afford to live in Trump’s America. As the job market slows and long-term unemployment rises, Trump’s erratic economic policies continue to jack up prices. Instead of focusing on a plan to bring down costs, Trump is scheming with Republicans in the House and Senate to pass a tax handout for billionaires paid for by working and middle-class Americans.”
Thanks to Trump, the cost of goods — from kids’ toys and wedding dresses to cars and utilities — has skyrocketed, while essentials like medical care are predicted to get more expensive.
🧸 Toy prices are skyrocketing at the fastest pace on record, while games and playground equipment jumped 2.2% between April and May.
💍 Some consumers have been forced to pay as much as 10-15% in surcharges for their wedding dress.
🚗 Trump’s failing economic agenda is already driving car prices up by almost $2,000 per vehicle.
🔌 Nearly 60 utility providers are trying to raise electric bills by $38.3 billion and gas bills by $3.5 billion — forcing tens of millions of Americans to shoulder higher costs.
🏡 New home prices just reached an all-time high, and Trump’s policies have added an additional $10,000 price tag to the average home renovation.
🩺 Health insurance providers are raising premiums for millions of Americans in response to Trump’s chaotic economic agenda.
💊 Prescription drug prices are expected to rise under Trump’s disastrous economic agenda.
🧺 Washing machines, fridges, ovens, and other household goods are expected to get more expensive because of Trump.
📈 While prices increase, economists are sounding the alarm on rising long-term unemployment amid a slowing job market.
Reuters: “US labor market losing steam; economic outlook uncertain”
“[T]he unemployment rate could rise in June as more laid off people struggle to find work. …
“Hiring has, however, been lackluster, making it harder for many unemployed to find new opportunities.
“The number of people receiving benefits after an initial week of aid, a proxy for hiring, increased 37,000 to a seasonally adjusted 1.974 million during the week ending June 14, the highest level since November 2021, the claims report showed.”
Reuters: “US consumer confidence weakens on job market worries”
“U.S. consumer confidence unexpectedly deteriorated in June as households increasingly worried about job availability, another indication that labor market conditions were softening against the backdrop of rising economic uncertainty because of the Trump administration’s tariffs. …
“The share of consumers viewing jobs as plentiful was the smallest since March 2021, aligning with the continued elevation in the number of people collecting unemployment checks as well as a moderation in job growth.”
