Donald Trump and Republicans have caused healthcare costs to skyrocket. Trump and Republicans refused to extend the popular enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, forcing insurance premiums to increase by an average of 58% and causing ACA enrollment to drop by over 3 million so far, with more people expected to lose coverage in the coming months. Now, nearly half of Americans say they’re more likely to vote for candidates in the midterm elections who support reinstating the ACA tax credits.
On top of that, Trump and Republicans cut Medicaid by nearly $1 TRILLION — the largest cut to healthcare in history — which, along with other Trump cuts to healthcare, is projected to leave an additional 15 million people uninsured. After making healthcare even more expensive, Trump and his administration now want Americans to take out loans for medical bills they can’t pay.
Trump and his Republican allies are scrambling to reduce the political blowback from their dismal agenda that has made healthcare unaffordable. It’s no wonder why: More than half of Americans could not consistently afford healthcare in 2025 — a five-year record low — and nearly one in four American workers report staying in unwanted jobs just to maintain reliable health insurance.
Heading into the midterms, Democrats are up eight points on the generic congressional ballot, and Trump’s approval rating is hovering around 33%.

“Donald Trump and Republicans are trying to flip the script on their healthcare agenda that has left everyday Americans grappling with skyrocketing insurance premiums, medical bills, and prescription drug costs. But no amount of gaslighting from Republicans will reverse the pain working families are feeling as they take on record amounts of debt for medical bills they can’t afford. Heading into the midterms, Republicans are panicking, and it’s no wonder why: Americans will remember who fought for affordable healthcare and who made it more expensive, and they’re ready to hold Republicans accountable at the ballot box.”
