Donald Trump spent months repeatedly calling the files a “Democratic Hoax,” a “scam,” and “bullshit.” Meanwhile, his administration tripped over itself to make this scandal go away as information continued to emerge that Trump’s name is all over the files. After the House and Senate overwhelmingly voted to release the Epstein files, and after months of mounting pressure from Democrats, Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act into law, requiring his Department of Justice to finally release the files.
In direct violation of the bipartisan law passed in December, Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) is still sitting on about 3 million pages of the Epstein files that have not been released. An investigation found that Trump’s DOJ withheld some of the Epstein files related to serious allegations about Trump.
Attorney General Todd Blanche has dismissed any possibility of renewed investigations into Epstein’s crimes, saying earlier this year, “To the extent the Epstein Files was a part of the past year of this Justice Department, it should not be a part of anything going forward.”
In response, DNC Spokesperson Jaelin O’Halloran released the following statement:
“Almost two years in, Donald Trump and his administration are still stonewalling the full release of the Epstein files, denying justice and accountability for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and dismissing demands from the American public for transparency. Trump’s claims of his administration being transparent are nothing but a joke when he and his lackeys have spent nearly a year delaying and covering up for the rich and powerful in the files. It’s time for Trump and his administration to stop protecting pedophiles and release all of the files.”
Only 10% of Americans say the Trump administration helped hold Epstein associates accountable, and a whopping 75% of Americans say the federal government is hiding information about Epstein’s clients.
