New polling shows voters trust Democrats more than Republicans on the economy for the first time in nearly a decade
Tonight, Donald Trump will travel to California to give a so-called economic speech to his wealthy donors at his golf club and tout his administration’s failed policies that have left working families struggling to make ends meet in his economy.
Under Trump, Americans have spent more than $3,500 extra on goods and services, including $310 more on groceries and $504 more on gas because of Trump’s reckless tariffs and his deadly and costly war with Iran.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“As Donald Trump toasts to his wealthy donors, everyday Americans continue to drown under the weight of sky-high costs on everything from groceries to gas to healthcare. Trump’s reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have pushed prices up and forced working families to drain their savings to make ends meet — and Trump doesn’t care. Trump is doing what he does best: schmoozing with the ultra-rich while ignoring the struggles of everyday Americans.”
Heading into the midterms, Trump’s approval rating has sunk to dismal lows, falling even among his core supporters. Seven in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, and nearly 80% of Americans rate the economy poorly. Meanwhile, nearly 60% of voters believe the economy is getting worse, and nearly 50% say they are worse off financially than they were a year ago. To make matters worse for Trump, nearly two-thirds of Americans believe Republicans are focusing too little on the cost of living, and 56% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say Trump has not gone far enough to lower the price of everyday goods.
