With one day until Election Day, we’re revisiting Donald Trump’s own words to Americans over the last 21 months of his presidency. His message to voters has been clear: After Trump crushed the economy and hiked prices, he turned a blind eye to the financial pain he has caused everyday Americans as working families pinch pennies just to make ends meet.
Here’s what Trump has said about the financial pain everyday Americans are feeling in his economy:
- Trump: “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anyone.”
- When pressed about his past comments about Americans’ financial situation, Trump said: “That’s right. That’s a perfect statement. I’d make it again.”
- Trump: “I don’t give a damn, we’re making a freaking fortune.”

In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance have turned their backs on everyday Americans after their agenda hiked prices and made life unaffordable for working families. Trump and Vance launched reckless tariffs and started a deadly, costly war with Iran, and now working families are dipping into savings or taking on extra debt just to scrape by — and Trump is saying the quiet part out loud: He doesn’t care. Americans see Trump’s betrayal for what it is, and tomorrow voters are going to hold Republicans accountable.”
REMINDER: Under Trump and JD Vance, Americans have been forced to pay an additional $4,700 on everyday essentials, including $310 for groceries and $915 on housing. Americans have shelled out an additional $142 billion on gas and diesel alone since Trump and Vance started their war with Iran, and the average price of gas has been above $4 per gallon for 177 days this year — more than any year on record.
