A new report found the average household has spent more than $3,500 in additional costs under Trump
Donald Trump’s disastrous tariffs have made life unaffordable for working families. American consumers and businesses have already shouldered 96% of the burden of Trump’s tariffs, and now Americans could pay even more as Trump doubles down on his trade war.
Trump signaled he would roll out new tariffs to sidestep the Supreme Court’s decision earlier this year ruling his tariffs illegal, plunging the U.S. deeper into Trump’s trade war and threatening to raise prices even higher for American consumers and businesses.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump has made life unbearable for working families. Americans continue to shoulder the costs of his reckless trade war and deadly and costly war with Iran while Trump looks the other way. Trump campaigned on the promise to lower prices, yet his presidency has been defined by higher costs on everything from groceries to gas to healthcare. Americans are fed up with Trump’s self-serving agenda, as he uses the presidency as a cash-grab for himself and his wealthy donors while working families are left to fend for themselves.”
A new report found that under Trump the average household has been forced to spend more than $3,500 in additional costs for goods and services, including $695 more on housing, $310 more for groceries, $504 more for gas, and $116 more for electricity. Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans’ refusal to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits hiked monthly premiums by over 50% and deductibles have increased by more than $1,000 on average.
It’s no wonder Trump is historically unpopular. Trump’s net approval on his handling of the economy sits at a dismal -26 and his handling of inflation is at -38. A new poll also found that over 70% of adults believe Trump’s tariffs have increased prices, and two-thirds of Americans say groceries are unaffordable, a 21-point jump from before Trump started his war with Iran.
