Today, JD Vance will travel to Texas to tout the failed Republican agenda that has made life unaffordable for working families. Donald Trump and Vance’s reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have hiked prices on everything from gas and groceries to fertilizer and diesel, crushing everyday Americans, and now Trump and Vance are desperately trying to rally their base as the midterm elections approach and Republicans face defeat.
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance started a deadly and costly war with Iran that sent the economy spiraling and pushed prices even higher, and now — in the final stretch to the midterms — they’re desperately pleading with voters to ‘give [them] another chance.’ Despite their promises to lower costs on ‘Day One,’ everyday Americans are struggling to fill up at the pump and put food on the table — with no relief in sight. Trump and Vance have made life unaffordable for working families, and in nearly one month, voters are going to hold Republicans accountable.”
REMINDER: The average Texas household has had to spend an additional $3,000 for everyday essentials under Trump and Vance, including $310 for groceries and $360 on housing costs. The average price for a gallon of gas in Texas is $3.92 and the average price for a gallon of diesel is $5.82. The average Texas family has shelled out an additional $803 on gas alone since Trump and Vance started their war with Iran. This is on top of higher healthcare costs in a state that is already leading the nation in the uninsured rate and the number of rural hospital closures.
