Today, Donald Trump will travel to Mississippi — a state Trump won by 23 points in 2024 — to promote the failed Republican agenda that has made life more expensive for working families. Republicans’ reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have hiked prices on everything from gas to groceries, crushing everyday Americans, especially farmers. On top of that, their Big Ugly Bill ripped healthcare away from families and children while shuttering rural hospitals and clinics across the country, including eight in Mississippi. Now, Trump is trying to desperately rally his base as Republicans face defeat in the midterm elections.
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance are continuing their desperation tour, frantically traveling to ruby red states to shore up their base as even their most loyal supporters abandon ship. Trump and Vance promised to ‘defeat inflation’ and end forever wars. Instead, their reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have raised prices on everything from gas to groceries to healthcare as working families and farmers struggle to make ends meet. Americans are fed up with Trump and Vance’s broken promises, and in just over one week, voters will send their rubber-stamp Republicans packing.”
REMINDER: Mississippi families have spent an additional $3,800 on everyday essentials under Trump and JD Vance, including $310 for groceries and $703 on housing costs. The average price for a gallon of gas in Mississippi is $3.83 and the average price for a gallon of diesel is $5.85. Mississippi families have shelled out an additional $1,141 on gas alone since Trump and Vance started their war with Iran. On top of that, experts estimate that at least 145,000 Mississippians will lose healthcare thanks to Trump and Republicans’ $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and their refusal to renew the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.
