DNC on Historic Election Law Reforms in New York
January 16, 2019
DNC Vice Chairs Grace Meng and Michael Blake released the following statement on the election law reforms passed by the New York state legislature this week:
“We are excited by the historic package of election reforms passed by the new Democratically-controlled state legislature in New York. These reforms, including creating a 9-day early vote period, establishing pre-registration for young voters, and consolidating New York’s state and federal primary elections, will make it easier for New Yorkers to turn out and vote. As Democrats, we believe that making your voice heard by casting your ballot in elections is a fundamental right — that’s why the DNC adopted its own historic package of reforms last year to encourage historic changes just like these. We’re committed to expanding opportunities for Americans to vote, and these latest reforms in both the DNC and in our home state represent a monumental step forward for the people of New York.”
