Trump Helped Health Care CEOs Make Hundreds of Millions, While Increasing Costs For Everyone Else
March 20, 2019
Health care CEOs made hundreds of millions of dollars after Trump gave their companies massive new tax cuts. Meanwhile, his ongoing ACA sabotage has increased health care costs for millions of families across the country.
In the first year under the Trump tax law, the CEOs of 23 prominent health care companies earned more than $632 million.
Axios: “The CEOs of 23 prominent health care companies earned more than $632 million in 2018, based on the actual value of cashed-out stock, according Axios’ most recent tally of federal securities documents.”
This came after Trump gave health care companies massive new tax cuts that would add potentially tens of billions to their bottom lines.
Axios: “Health care companies will add tens of billions of dollars to their bottom lines this year thanks to savings from the Republican tax cut package. But only a fraction of that money will benefit patients.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s sabotage has already increased health care costs for millions of Americans, and could raise premiums as much as 16% this year.
Kaiser Family Foundation: “Among insurers that publicly specify the effect of these legislative and policy changes in their filings to state insurance commissioners, we found that 2019 premiums will be an average of 6% higher, as a direct result of individual mandate repeal and expansion of more loosely regulated plans, than would otherwise be the case… [T]his analysis suggests on-exchange benchmark silver premiums will be about 16% higher in 2019 than would otherwise be the case.”
