WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement on Father's Day:
 
 “It’s Father’s Day, and that means dads across the country are receiving some well-deserved recognition for all they do to support and care for their children and families. One thing that our newest dads don’t have, however, is access to paid family leave. Sadly, the United States remains the only industrialized nation in the world that doesn’t require employers to offer paid family leave to new moms and dads. 

“Democrats across the country support paid family leave. We believe that when families have the opportunity to start strong, they grow strong, and that strengthens our country and every American is better off.

“But Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, disagrees. Donald called pregnancy an inconvenience for employers and said he would actually scale back family leave. Donald has never had to worry about the cost of child care or the career risks of taking time off from work. He doesn’t understand the sacrifices and struggles of so many new parents in the modern economy, and he cannot see the enormous relief that would come with paid family leave. For dads and moms in most countries around the world, paid family leave is a right, not a privilege. It’s time for America to catch up to the rest of the world when it comes to family leave. This Father’s Day, we have to remember just how much is at stake for families in this year's elections.”
