DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on National Hispanic Heritage Month:

“As the first-ever Latino DNC Chair, I’m proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with Hispanic and Latinx families across America. And I’m excited to honor the Hispanic and Latinx  activists, leaders, lawmakers, and community organizers who are working to build a brighter future for everyone.

“Unfortunately, this president has peddled hate and prejudice since day one. He’s separated families at the border and treated asylum seekers with unconscionable cruelty. He’s used ‘immigrant’ as a four-letter word, targeting Hispanic communities and using lies and fearmongering to divide our country.

“Unlike Donald Trump, Democrats believe our diversity is our greatest strength. And as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we will never stop fighting for the values of inclusion and opportunity for everyone.”
