Following May Jobs Report, DNC Chair Tom Perez, NV Dems Chair William McCurdy, State Senator Yvanna Cancela, and Nevada State AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Rusty McAllister Slam Failing Trump Economy’s Impact on Latinos

On a press call today, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II, state Senator Yvanna Cancela, and Nevada State AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Rusty McAllister slammed Donald Trump’s cratering economy, highlighting its disproportionate impacts on Latino families in Nevada.

Tom Perez, Chair, Democratic National Committee:

“The unemployment rate of Latinos when the Obama-Biden administration ended was 5.9%. It has almost tripled under the watch of Donald Trump. […] His inability to care about anyone but himself has left one in three Las Vegas workers without a job. He hasn’t simply betrayed Nevadans. He didn’t just fail to bring back jobs. His incompetence sabotaged Nevada’s economy. Even as Nevadans pick up the pieces, he’s proven he has no interest in helping.”

William McCurdy II, Chair, Nevada State Democratic Party:

“As Nevadans struggle through one of the worst public health crises in our lifetime, we’re also bearing the brunt of a man-made disaster. The consequences of an unprepared, erratic president have been felt in every corner of the state, particularly in Latino communities. […] When Trump fails Latinos, he fails Nevadans. When he abandons immigrants, he abandons Nevada. And when he allows his failing economy to wreak havoc on the lives of hardworking Latino families, he’s sabotaging the future of our entire state.”

Yvanna Cancela, Nevada State Senator:

“Trump’s ineffective, irresponsible leadership has hurt Latino families. […] By the end of March, we know that nearly half of all Latinos in this country said that someone in their household had taken a pay cut, lost a job, or in some cases both, as a result of the pandemic. […] Here in Nevada, we won’t forget that come November.”

Rusty McAllister, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Nevada State AFL-CIO:

“Working families have been hit the hardest by this president’s economic meltdown. Instead of working to help working families, the president has focused on funneling relief money to the rich and well-connected. […] Even before the pandemic, 40% of Americans couldn’t afford a $400 emergency expense. But instead of quickly distributing help when it was most needed, President Trump delayed millions of dollars in relief checks just so he could get his name printed on the signature line.”
