On Anniversary of Trump’s Campaign Launch, DNC Chair Tom Perez, FL Dems Chair Terrie Rizzo and Rep. Val Demings Slam Trump’s Five Years of Broken Promises To Floridians
June 16, 2020
On a press call today, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo and Rep. Val Demings slammed Donald Trump’s five years of broken promises and failed record on jobs, health care, and racial justice. On the fifth anniversary of Trump’s campaign launch, Florida is facing double-digit unemployment, while Trump’s attacks on health care continue to endanger working families in the midst of a global pandemic.
Today’s call begins a five-week campaign to mark the five year anniversary of Trump’s candidacy. This morning, the DNC War Room released a new television and digital ad campaign running in battleground states, including Florida. Trump’s failed leadership has dragged America down, and Floridians are taking notice. According to recent polling, “Floridians hold an 84% negative view of the Sunshine State’s unemployment rate, and a 65% negative view of the national economy. They also hold a 77% negative view of the state’s health care and prescription drug costs.”
Tom Perez, Chair, Democratic National Committee:
“He hasn’t just betrayed Floridians. He didn’t just fail to create jobs. His incompetence sabotaged the Florida economy. […] And this is a moment in time when Donald Trump is describing the most recent jobs report as ‘joyous.’ ‘Joyous.’ I don’t know what’s joyous about losing your job and losing your health care and losing your livelihood. There’s nothing joyous about the small businesses in Florida closing down. There’s nothing joyous about workers going without a paycheck, waiting in line because their state unemployment office can’t process their claim. There’s nothing joyous about what’s happening across Florida. We can’t afford four more years of this incompetence.”
Terrie Rizzo, Chair, Florida Democratic Party:
“Donald Trump, on the other hand, promised Floridians that he would ‘create a great health care system’ […] He repeated that lie again and again, but the truth is Donald Trump hasn’t created anything. All he’s done is attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act without a plan to replace it, jeopardizing health care for millions of Floridians.”
U.S. Representative Val Demings
“In November, we have an opportunity to send a clear message about who we are as Floridians, who we are as a nation, who we are as Americans. We do not have to settle for what we currently have. Injustices in criminal justice. Injustice in housing. Injustice in health care. […] Inequities in education and business. […] Dear Florida, we can do better and we must do better. We need persons of all colors and all ages to come together and say ‘enough is enough.’ We must elect Joe Biden, the next president of the United States, and restore honor and dignity to our precious nation.”
