DNC on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 18, 2021
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“Every year, we commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr; we honor his legacy through acts of service; we remember his courage and wisdom, and his ability to marshal millions to action in the fight for jobs, justice, and equality. But this year’s MLK Day comes during a trying time for our nation, a time when Dr. King’s message and mission have never been more urgent. Over the past year, America has grappled with civil unrest over the systemic racism that still pervades our society. And our country has been ravaged by a pandemic that has further exposed the relics of racial injustice that remain. So as we celebrate Dr. King’s life, let us also recommit ourselves to his life’s work. Because MLK Day is about more than releasing a statement or tweeting a quote of his inspiring words. It’s about acting on those words. It’s about realizing his vision for equality and opportunity. Even when it is uncomfortable. Especially when it is uncomfortable. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are committed to carrying on Dr. King’s legacy and championing his cause of justice for all.”
