MAGA Hot Mic: Georgia Governor Brian Kemp… AGAIN
November 1, 2022
Georgia GOP Governor Brian Kemp picks up MAGA Hot Mic honors for the THIRD TIME for refusing to rule out signing new abortion restrictions into law if elected to a second term.
You read that right. During the last debate, Brian Kemp REFUSED to rule out signing more abortion restrictions if he wins another term.
Atlanta Journal Constitution: “Gov. Brian Kemp wouldn’t say at Sunday’s Channel 2 Action News debate whether he would sign new abortion limits into law if he’s elected to a second term”
Politico: “In one notable moment, Kemp backtracked from his previous statement that he wouldn’t support additional abortion restrictions: On Sunday, he declined to say whether he’d sign more bills into law on the issue.”
Let’s not forget: This is the same man who opened the door to banning Plan B and forms of birth control.
Heartland Signal: “During [a] public appearance at the University of Georgia last week, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) expressed his openness to ban contraception depending on ‘where the legislatures are.’ […] Unless the right to contraception is codified into law by Congress ― something that will not happen if the Republican party is in control ― it can be overturned by the Supreme Court similar to federal abortion rights.”
11Alive: “A person asks the governor if he has the power to ban Plan B, an emergency contraception known as the morning-after pill. Another voice, confirmed to be Kemp, said it’s possible but clarified Georgia’s General Assembly must be in a legislative session. He explained how it’s a possibility, but cited that lawmakers had to support the idea. However, the governor pointed out that since states have the power to construct policies around abortion, there are possibilities.”
It gets worse. Kemp was caught on tape saying he liked the idea of a statewide ban on aspects of in vitro fertilization.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “Tipsters sent us audio of Gov. Brian Kemp at a recent stop in Blakely where he was asked by someone posing as a supporter whether he backs a ‘statewide ban on the destruction of embryos…’
‘Do you like the idea?’ the questioner asked.
‘Yeah,’ [Governor Kemp] said.”
Keep in mind that all of this is anti-choice rhetoric is coming from the individual responsible for signing one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country.
Heartland Signal: “Kemp already signed one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country in 2019, which bans all abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. Cardiac activity can usually be detected in an embryo around six weeks of pregnancy, when most women do not even know they are pregnant yet.”
Georgia Recorder Commentary: “Georgia’s politicians didn’t even wait. In 2019, Gov. Brian Kemp signed a law that prohibits a pregnant person from getting an abortion at around six weeks – when many women may have just missed their period and don’t even know they are pregnant. That law also gives personhood rights to embryos.”
Brian Kemp’s extreme record speaks for itself. Georgians must hold Kemp and Republicans accountable for their dangerous plans to ban abortion and forms of birth control.
