MAGA Hot Mic: The North Carolina GOP Ticket
November 7, 2022
Today’s MAGA Hot Mic honors fall on the extreme, anti-choice North Carolina Republican statewide ticket.
First up is GOP Senate nominee Ted Budd, who is a cosponsor of Republicans’ latest extreme national abortion ban — which would strip away reproductive freedom in all 50 states.
Fox 8: “National abortion ban co-sponsored by North Carolina Rep. Ted Budd”
The News & Observer: “U.S. Rep. Ted Budd expressed his support this week for [Senator Lindsey Graham’s] new proposal to ban abortion nationwide… The proposal would impose a national ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy”
But North Carolina Republicans’ extremism doesn’t end there. Bo Hines, the NC-13 GOP nominee, supports creating a panel of strangers to decide whether victims of rape or incest should be forced to carry their pregnancies to term. Keep in mind: This is the same man who said “abortion should be made illegal throughout the United States. No exceptions.”
News & Observer: “Republicans have a new answer to the abortion question, and it’s worse than a total ban… Hines said he wants victims of rape and incest seeking abortion to go through ‘a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government.’”
Bo Hines: “Abortion should be made illegal throughout the United States. No exceptions.”
NC-01 GOP nominee Sandy Smith opposes abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother and said life begins at conception.
Sandy Smith: “I am 100% Pro-Life and feel we need to protect all innocent life, including the life of the unborn. Life begins at conception and we now have the science to prove this. I am not for any exceptions to murder a baby in the womb. I’m also a supporter and an outspoken advocate of adoption.”
Sandy Smith: “I believe that life begins at conception. As your Congresswoman, I will fight every day to protect and defend the sanctity of life, including the unborn.”
NC-06 GOP nominee Christian Castelli has said that life begins at conception, a belief that can pave the way for Republicans to even ban forms of birth control.
Christian Castelli: “As a devout Christian, I will protect the unborn from conception to birth. I believe life begins at conception and we must do everything in our power to protect the defenseless at every stage of life.”
The North Carolina Republican statewide ticket is extreme, anti-choice, and drastically out of touch. North Carolinians cannot afford Republicans’ dangerous agenda.
