NEW: Vivek Ramaswamy Doubles Down on His Climate Denialism

After calling efforts to combat the climate crisis a “hoax” at last month’s Republican debate, Vivek Ramaswamy is ramping up his climate denialism in an effort to out-MAGA his GOP opponents who have refused to face the reality of climate change.

Ramaswamy is doubling down on his extreme climate denial agenda.

Linsey Davis: “Do you believe in climate change?”

Ramaswamy: “Well, I think that with due respect, I’ve talked about this in other forums, “Do you believe in climate change?” is not really a meaningful question, because climate change has existed as long as the Earth has existed. Do I believe it is a fact that global surface temperatures are rising over the course of the last century and the last half century? Yes, I think that that is an established trend–”

Davis: “As president, would you do anything to try to buck that trend?”

Ramaswamy: “No is the answer.”

Ramaswamy dismissed actions to combat the climate crisis as a “hoax” at last month’s Republican debate.

Ramaswamy: “The climate change agenda is a hoax … The reality is more people are dying of bad climate change policies than they are of actual climate change.”

Washington Post Fact Checker: “No matter how you slice it, credible research has concluded that thousands of people a year die because of the effects of climate change. We can’t find data that suggests green energy policies actually kill even more people — and Ramaswamy’s campaign did not provide any source for his claim. He earns Four Pinocchios.”

Politico: “Vivek Ramaswamy calls climate change agenda a ‘hoax’”

Ramaswamy has been spreading climate denialism over and over again on the campaign trail.

Ramaswamy: “The Earth’s surface area is covered with more plant life

today than 50 years ago – because, yes, carbon is plant food and surface temperatures are a little higher. More facts that you’ll never hear from the Church of Climate Change.”

Des Moines Register: “In Iowa, Vivek Ramaswamy finds Republican voters share his disdain of climate change”

The Hill: “Vivek Ramaswamy says US ‘climate change agenda’ is a ‘hoax’”

New York Times: “He similarly described ‘climatism’ as ‘prioritizing the goal of containing climate change at all costs,’ and suggested that fossil fuel and nuclear-powered advances could be used to adapt to and overcome climate change. (Climate scientists are clear that avoiding the worst effects of climate change requires moving away from fossil fuels.)”

MAGA Republicans running for president have not only denied the existence of climate change, but they also have consistent records of supporting policies that would bring us backward in our efforts to combat it.

New York Times: “Over four years, the Trump administration dismantled major climate policies and rolled back many more rules governing clean air, water, wildlife and toxic chemicals.”

The Guardian: “Ron DeSantis has been accused of a ‘catastrophic’ approach to the climate crisis after he launched his campaign for US president by saying he rejects the ‘politicization of the weather’ and questioning whether hurricanes hitting his home state of Florida have been worsened by climate change.”

The State: “Tim Scott signed onto a letter signed by other Republican senators asking Trump to revoke the landmark deal to combat climate change agreed to by almost 200 nations in the French capital in 2015. The letter, sent to Trump last week, congratulates him on rolling back climate regulations.”

Alex Ward, Politico: “Pence says that there will be ‘modest’ temperature changes over the next century. The UN estimates that average Earth temperatures will rise by about 3 degrees above preindustrial levels by the first half of 2030, which could have severe consequences.”

The Hill: “As U.N. ambassador during the Trump administration, Haley played a key role in the former president’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, which she touts on her campaign website.”

Reuters: “The governors of five Republican states are ready to fight Democratic President-elect Joe Biden if he tries to require the power sector to slash greenhouse gas emissions. … ‘Our power companies have voluntarily embraced sources of alternative energy without heavy-handed regulation from

government,’ Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said in a statement.”

HuffPost: “When asked by Joe Scarborough on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ on Tuesday whether he believes climate change is occurring and man-made, the New Jersey governor replied, ‘The climate has been changing forever and it will always change and man will always contribute to it. It’s not a crisis.’ … Scarborough pointed out that recent years have been uncharacteristically hot, shattering temperature records, but Christie was skeptical. ‘I don’t buy that, Joe. … I don’t see any evidence that it’s a crisis,’ Christie said. When asked what scientific data he was relying on for evidence, Christie pointed not to specific studies or charts but to his own intuition. ‘That’s my feeling,’ he said. ‘I didn’t say I was relying on any scientist.’”

Kaitlan Collins, CNN: “North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum doesn’t say whether he believes humans are to blame for global warming as a new analysis finds extreme heat waves were made significantly more likely by the human-caused climate crisis.”
