As Bidenomics continues to grow the economy from the bottom up and the middle out,  the Biden-Harris administration announced the designation of 31 Tech Hubs across the country that will drive innovation, job creation, and competitiveness in key industries nationwide.

In Alabama: Alabama Political Reporter: Birmingham scores Federal Tech Hub Spot, competes for $75M funding boost

Key Point: “Today, Birmingham proudly takes its place among 31 regions announced as a federal Tech Hub, competing under a program with the potential to pour $75 million into the local economy. … The EDA’s Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs Program, originating from the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, commits to fortifying regional innovation, fueling job creation, and capacitating cities to navigate, capitalize, and introduce novel technologies.”

In Colorado: KDVR: Colorado designated as federal technology, innovation hub

Key Point: “Colorado’s technical businesses and scientific advancements have been shared across the world — and out of this atmosphere — and now those accomplishments have been federally designated. In April, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) announced a new public-private initiative, TechHubNow!, to position Colorado for designation as a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hub) under the CHIPS and Science Act.”

In Florida: The Capitolist: U.S. Department of Commerce designates South Florida as climate resilience tech hub

Key Point: “President Joe Biden on Monday formally declared South Florida, alongside 31 other sites nationally, as a climate resilience tech hub as part of the federal Tech Hubs program. The South Florida Climate Resilience Tech Hub, with the Miami Dade County Innovation and Economic Development Office serving as the lead agency, will work to advance sustainable and weather-hardened infrastructure in the region, which frequently faces large-scale hurricanes and coastal flooding. The designation additionally positions South Florida to become eligible for millions of dollars of federal funding.”

In Illinois: WAND: Two Illinois programs selected as U.S. EDA Tech Hubs

Key Point: ‘“It’s welcome news that two Illinois proposals—one in quantum and one in advanced biomanufacturing—have been designated as Regional Tech Hubs,’ said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). ‘Thanks to the CHIPS and Science Act that we passed last year and President Biden’s leadership, the Tech Hubs program is investing in America, creating good paying jobs, and driving innovation.’”

In Indiana: FOX59: Indiana aims to become leader in biotech, biomanufacturing with tech hub designation

Key Point: “The federal government chose Indiana as one of more than two dozen tech hubs across the country. … Funding will come from the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden in August 2022.”

In Kansas: KSHB: Kansas City region selected by Biden administration as biologics, biomanufacturing tech hub

In Maine: Portland Press Herald: Maine is named a forest bioproducts tech hub, opening door to investment

Key Point: “The Maine hub is one of 31 federal tech hubs to be designated under the Tech Hubs Program created by President Biden’s CHIPS and Sciences Act. In Maryland: Baltimore Sun: Baltimore selected as federal tech hub for artificial intelligence and biotechnology

Key Point: “The Baltimore region has been awarded a federal designation as a national tech hub, which could generate hundreds of millions of dollars of investment and create tens of thousands of jobs. … President Joe Biden announced the hubs Monday, part of a program designed to invest in high-potential U.S. regions and make them globally competitive in emerging technologies.”

In Massachusetts: Boston Globe: Biden administration announces 31 Tech Hubs, including three in New England

In Montana: NBC Montana: Montana named Regional Tech Hub, among 30 new designations

Key Point: “The Economic Development Administration just named Montana a Regional Tech Hub. It comes with $500,000 in strategy development funding to help launch the hub’s activities. … It means the state can compete for millions of dollars in funding from federal and private sources to develop new technology.”

In New York: Syracuse.com: Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo win US designation as national tech hub for computer chips

Key Point: “A region that spans Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo has won a U.S. competition to become one of 31 national tech hubs, a designation that could help unleash billions of dollars in new investment in Upstate New York. President Joe Biden plans to announce the winning regions today, including the Upstate New York consortium.”

In Nevada: KOLO: UNR designated tech hub by Biden admin

Key Point: “The University of Nevada, Reno has been named a tech hub by the Biden administration. … UNR is one of 31 other locations designated as tech hubs, an inaugural program designed to drive innovation and increase local manufacturing capacity by investing in those areas of the country. In Ohio: Akron Beacon Journal: Akron wins regional tech hub status, will compete for millions in federal funds

Key Point: “Akron could be eligible for $70 million in federal funding after being designated a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub from the U.S. Department of Commerce. … The tech hub program is designed to drive regional innovation and job creation by strengthening a region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialize and deploy technology that will advance U.S. competitiveness. The program invests in high-potential regions and aims to transform them into globally competitive innovation centers.”

In Pennsylvania: Philadelphia Inquirer: The Philadelphia region won a new federal tech hub designation for life sciences

Key Point: “The Philadelphia region has been selected as one of 31 federal innovation and technology hubs, making the area eligible to compete for a grant of up to $75 million to advance the area’s life sciences industry, the Biden administration announced Monday. The Greater Philadelphia Region Precision Medicine Tech Hub was selected from among more than 370 applications for the Tech Hub designation, created by last year’s CHIPS and Science Act, which aimed to rejuvenate advanced manufacturing in the United States.”

In Rhode Island: Newport Buzz: Rhode Island Secures Federal Designation as Tech Hub, Continuing to Position State as Leader in Ocean Technology

Key Point: “Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation today announced that Rhode Island and its Southeastern New England partners have secured an official federal designation as a Tech Hub. … ‘I thank the Biden Administration for designating Rhode Island as the home of one of 31 inaugural Tech Hubs across the country that show potential for rapid growth in key technology sectors,’ said Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee.”

In Virginia: WFXR: $500K grant to New River Valley Regional Commission to continue to push technological boundaries

Key Point: “The New River Valley Regional Commission announced they have been selected for a highly competitive $500,000 federal Tech Hubs Strategy Development Grant on Monday, Oct. 23. The Tech Hubs Program was created as a part of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 to drive innovation by strengthening a region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialize, and deploy critical technologies.”

In Wisconsin: WPR: Wisconsin receives regional tech hub designation from the federal government

Key Point: “Wisconsin will receive a regional tech hub designation from the federal government focused on the state’s growing biohealth sector, with President Joe Biden saying he thinks work being done in the state will save lives. … ‘They’re going to bring together research labs, medical device manufacturers and engineers,’ Biden said. ‘They’re going to build technology that supports personalized medicine by tests, treatments and therapies specifically tailored to a patient’s genetic code and medical records. And I believe it’s going to save a lot of lives in the long run.’”
