It’s been three years since Donald Trump’s extreme, anti-abortion Supreme Court justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in, and after Barrett voted to overturn Roe v. Wade last year, millions of women have had their reproductive freedom ripped away from them. Trump said it himself: “I was able to kill Roe v. Wade.” This week, he marked the anniversary of Barrett’s swearing-in by backing extreme anti-abortion House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has supported nationwide abortion bans.  

While Trump tries to lie about his extreme agenda against reproductive freedom, his anti-choice Supreme Court appointments overturned Roe v. Wade and opened the door for extreme and cruel abortion bans across the country, affecting the lives of millions of women.

Let’s be clear: Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation was the final step in Trump and the extreme right’s yearslong plan to overturn Roe v. Wade.

CNBC: “Donald Trump said the overturning of the landmark Supreme Court decision giving women the right to abortion ‘will happen, automatically,’ if he is elected president and gets to appoint justices to the high court.

“‘I am pro-life,’ Trump said during Wednesday night’s presidential debate when asked whether he wanted that decision, Roe v. Wade, reversed by the Supreme Court.”

The Guardian: “Donald Trump has said it ‘is certainly possible’ Amy Coney Barrett will be part of a supreme court decision overturning Roe v Wade, the 1973 ruling which made abortion legal in the US.

“‘She is certainly conservative in her views, in her rulings, and we’ll have to see how that all works out, but I think it will work out,’ the president told Fox & Friends Weekend of his new nominee.”

As a direct result of Barrett’s appointment to the highest court in the land, Trump was able to deliver on his campaign promise to rip away reproductive freedom from women across the country. 

CNBC: “Former President Donald Trump called Friday’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade ‘the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation’ — and gave himself credit for the outcome in the controversial decision to undo federal abortion rights.

“Trump nominated three of the five conservative Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.”

“Trump, in a statement, said Friday’s ruling and other recent court decisions ‘were only made possible because I delivered everything as promised, including nominating and getting three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court.’

“‘It was my great honor to do so!’ Trump said.”

Reuters: “Seventeen months after leaving office, former President Donald Trump delivered on a campaign promise on Friday when the conservative U.S. Supreme Court majority he cemented overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.”

As a result of Trump’s extreme anti-abortion agenda, millions of women across the country have had their reproductive freedom ripped away — in some states before many even know they’re pregnant. After the fall of Roe, states quickly implemented extreme abortion bans with no exceptions for rape or incest as well as laws that would throw doctors in jail for providing care and criminalize those who help women exercise their right to choose. 

New York Times: “Twenty-one states ban abortion or restrict the procedure earlier in pregnancy than the standard set by Roe v. Wade, which governed reproductive rights for nearly half a century until the Supreme Court overturned the decision last year.”

CNN: “The Georgia State Supreme Court upheld the state’s six-week abortion ban in a ruling Tuesday morning. The ruling reverses a lower court’s decision to void certain sections of the LIFE Act because it was enacted prior to the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision one year ago that overturned the federal right to an abortion under Roe v. Wade. Georgia’s LIFE Act bans, with some exceptions, abortion when early cardiac activity is detected – which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, when many women don’t yet know they are pregnant.”

Associated Press: “North Dakota on Monday adopted one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the country as Republican Gov. Doug Burgum signed legislation banning the procedure throughout pregnancy, with slim exceptions up to six weeks’ gestation. In those early weeks, abortions would only be allowed in cases of rape or incest, or in medical emergencies. After six weeks, rape and incest victims cannot get abortions.”

NBC News: “Idaho has become the first state to pass a law explicitly restricting some out-of-state travel for abortions. The new legislation makes helping a pregnant minor get an abortion, whether through medication or a procedure, in another state punishable by two to five years in prison. Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, signed the bill on Wednesday night, and it goes into effect after 30 days. Abortion has been banned at all stages of pregnancy in Idaho since August — a result of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”

Columbus Dispatch: “On Monday three days after the Supreme Court issued its groundbreaking decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, took a call from a colleague, a child abuse doctor in Ohio. Hours after the Supreme Court action, the Buckeye state had outlawed any abortion after six weeks. Now this doctor had a 10-year-old patient in the office who was six weeks and three days pregnant.”

Orlando Weekly: “Middle school-aged incest victim was turned away from Florida abortion clinics under 15-week ban”

Washington Post: “Two friends were denied care after Florida banned abortion. One almost died.”

CNN: “Florida law allows abortions after 15 weeks if two doctors confirm the diagnosis of a fatal fetal abnormality in writing, but doctors in Florida and states with similar laws have been hesitant to terminate such pregnancies for fear someone will question whether the abnormality was truly fatal. The penalties for violating the law are severe: Doctors can go to prison and face heavy fines and legal fees.”

Trump is trying and failing to obfuscate his extreme agenda against reproductive freedom, but take it from him:
NBC News: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone,” Trump, the former president and front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination, said on his social media platform.
