In response to Nikki Haley facing pressure for her extreme anti-abortion agenda , DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement: 

“Nikki Haley’s sad attempts to out-Trump Trump have put a spotlight on her extreme and unpopular agenda to rip freedoms away from the American people, just like she did as governor. Just this month, Haley has thrown her support behind extreme six-week abortion bans and pledged to sign any national abortion ban that came to her desk in her latest salvo to galvanize the MAGA base. Haley has only succeeded in alienating even more voters, who rejected her extremism when she was in the governor’s mansion and will do so again next year.” 

ICYMI: Nikki Haley on Friday pledged her support for extreme abortion bans before many women know they’re pregnant.

Haley: “Yes.”

Haley is now facing blowback for her extreme anti-abortion agenda and her yearslong record of ripping away freedoms from women.

“At the forum, Haley touted her anti-abortion record when she was governor of South Carolina, where she signed an abortion ban after 20 weeks with a law requiring women to have ultrasounds before making a decision.”

Haley said during the most recent Republican debate that she would sign any nationwide abortion ban that landed on her desk.

Kirsten Welker: “Would you support a 15-week federal limit?”

Haley: “I would support anything that would pass.”

Haley has made clear that she would ban abortion nationwide if given the chance.

Haley: “Whatever we can get 60 Senate votes on, isn’t that better than what we have now? And if it’s– if it’s six weeks, that’s great. If it’s 15 weeks, that’s great.” 

Haley: “So what can we do? Is there room for a federal law? I think there is room for a federal law.”

Haley signed an abortion ban as governor of South Carolina that had no exceptions for rape or incest and threatened doctors with jail time.
