Holocaust Remembrance Day
January 27, 2024
In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement.
“About 79 years ago, six million Jews were systematically murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Others were also targeted during the tragedy: Roma and Sinti, Slavs, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and racial minorities.
“We mark Holocaust Remembrance Day to grieve those who were killed, and also to remind ourselves ‘never again.’ Never again must we let hatred spread like wildfire, never again must we allow people to be targeted for their religion, or for their ethnicity, or for who they love, and never again must we stand by in the face of evil.
“This year, the reminder of ‘never again’ is particularly strong and particularly loud. It’s been three months since the deadliest attack on the Jewish community since the Shoah, and Holocaust Remembrance Day comes amidst an alarming and frightening rise in antisemitism.
“So, now more than ever, we must have the courage to stand up and say: ‘Never again.’ We must have the courage to call out antisemitism and hate of all forms wherever we see it.”
