MAGA Republicans Voted “No” – But Kept Taking Credit for Historic American Rescue Plan Dough
March 11, 2024
Today, on the three year anniversary of the American Rescue Plan being signed into law after passing without a single Republican vote, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:
“Three years ago, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law, delivering critical relief to hardworking Americans and putting the country on a path toward recovery, all while the GOP sat on their hands. President Biden’s ARP cut child poverty, lowered health insurance premiums for millions, bolstered small businesses, and provided funding for local law enforcement – so it’s not hard to understand why Republicans wanted to claim credit after fighting it at every turn. Unfortunately for the GOP, Americans remember that President Biden and Democrats supported their families when they needed it most, while MAGA Republicans left them behind.”
Not a single congressional Republican supported or voted for the American Rescue Plan… but they have had no problem touting its benefits.
NBC News: “Republicans trumpet elements of Covid-19 relief bill they voted against”
“Congressional Republicans are walking a tightrope between promoting parts of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion economic relief package that are popular with their voters — while also bashing the overall law as a costly boondoggle.”
Associated Press: “Republicans promote pandemic relief they voted against”
“Every Republican in Congress voted against the sweeping pandemic relief bill that President Joe Biden signed into law three months ago. But since the early spring votes, Republicans from New York and Indiana to Texas and Washington state have promoted elements of the legislation they fought to defeat.”
President Biden’s American Rescue plan expanded the Child Tax Credit for working families, lowered health insurance premiums for millions of Americans, boosted small businesses, and helped keep our communities safe.
White House Fact Sheet: “The American Rescue Plan increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six, and raised the age limit from 16 to 17. All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent (also called Head of Household).”
“The Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan provides the largest child tax credit ever and historic relief to the most working families ever.”
White House Fact Sheet: “The American Rescue Plan will lower or eliminate health insurance premiums for millions of lower- and middle-income families enrolled in health insurance marketplaces. This will help well over a million uninsured Americans gain coverage.”
White House Fact Sheet: “The American Rescue Plan also includes a Small Business Opportunity Fund to provide growth capital to main street small businesses in economically disadvantaged areas, including minority-owned businesses”
Center for American Progress: “With the help of funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, governments are expanding their public safety strategies to invest in community responder programs that reduce reliance on law enforcement and provide communities with meaningful emergency management support.”
President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan has delivered billions in funding for law enforcement.
White House Fact Sheet: “The American Rescue Plan (ARP) has provided over $15 billion to prevent crime and promote public safety, including community violence intervention programs and crisis responders.”
