As Donald Trump returns to the Midwest – a region that bled jobs under his presidency – to cozy up to his wealthy friends, DNC spokesperson Stephanie Justice released the following statement: 

“On the campaign trail, Donald Trump vows to revitalize America’s manufacturing industry – however, working families suffered under his presidency as factory after factory shut down under his watch as he created incentives for companies to ship jobs overseas. The industrial Midwest deserves better than more of Trump’s broken promises. President Biden’s record of bringing tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs back to the region and delivering for our workers is a harsh split screen with Trump’s history of only looking out for himself and his billionaire buddies that he’ll be cozying up to today.”

Trump never delivered on his promises to workers and oversaw the closing of multiple manufacturing plants across the Midwest.

Rolling Stone: “[Trump] came to Youngstown in 2017 for one of his rallies and promised an economic renaissance in the area, urging Youngstown residents to stick around, the jobs were all coming back.

“The exact opposite happened. In April 2018, GM cut the second shift. Shortly after the midterm elections, GM delivered the death sentence: The plant would close for good in the spring of 2019.”

PBS: “‘He lied,’ said Trish Amato, who worked at a General Motors plant in the area that stopped production earlier this year. ‘He told everybody it’s all coming back,’ said Amato. ‘It’s not. It’s harder and harder to find a job.’”

CNN: “General Motors’ 78-year-old transmission plant in Warren, Michigan is halting production this week.”

Washington Post: “Trump promised this Wisconsin town a manufacturing boom. It never arrived.”

Trump consistently insulted workers, their companies, and their unions.
