In response to Marco Rubio defending Donald Trump for saying that immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood’ of our nation, DNC Spokesperson Kenia Guerrero released the following statement: 

“Donald Trump’s statement that immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood of our country’ is the kind of dangerous language used by the likes of Hitler and Mussolini — and Marco Rubio is willing to defend him just for the chance to be Trump’s running mate. Rubio has lost his last shred of dignity just to compete in a race to the bottom to be on an extreme MAGA ticket this November that is wildly out-of-touch with voters who will decide this election.”

“A Florida Senator who is in the vice presidential mix is pushing back against criticisms of Donald Trump’s comments about migration from Latin American countries.

“During a Noticias Telemundo interview, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio answered pointed questions from interviewer Julio Vaqueiro about whether Latino immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood’ of the country, saying they were idiomatic and not reflective of any racism by the former President.

“Pressed further, Rubio said ‘poisoning the blood’ is simply a ‘saying that he uses, but it has nothing to do with race, because in the end, he’s talking about the country, not the population.’”

Trump’s dangerous anti-immigrant statement is one of the many examples of him parroting rhetoric uttered by the likes of Hitler and Mussolini. 

Trump: “And we know they come from prisons. We know they come from mental institutions, insane asylums. We know they’re terrorists.”

“It’s poisoning the blood of our country. It’s so bad. And people are coming in with disease. People are coming in with every possible thing that you can have.”

Rubio’s long record of pushing a dangerous anti-immigrant agenda includes railing against DACA, previously opposing pathways to citizenship, and backing Trump’s demand to kill the border security deal.
